2020 Summit Bid: Mountain Art

Since our inception more than 110 years ago, the ACC has been deeply committed to shaping meaningful mountain culture, defining responsible outdoor leadership, and advocating for the preservation of Canada’s mountain environment. Auction bids directly fund this continuing legacy and we thank you for your support!

Mountain Art
Art is important to the way we understand our outdoor spaces - it inspires us to get out and protect the places we play in. We've gathered a variety of work that instills that feeling and we're proud to highlight our art supporters for the Summit Bid.
Kate Zessel is an artist located in Whistler B.C. She draws inspiration from the surroundings that she calls home. Originally from Vancouver, she spent her free moments growing up in the mountains, skiing and biking. She furthered her education in Graphic Design at the Vancouver Art Institute, where her passion for illustrating flourished. Putting pen to paper allowed her to capture moments of her adventures and transform them into visual pieces.
You can find her unique blend of intricate line work, patterns, and nature on her social platforms and throughout the outdoor industry. She has created graphics for different ski and snowboard brands, as well as large scale murals for ski resorts and retail spaces.
Capturing a full mountain scene, animal, or shape within a complete image is her way of recounting one of her backcountry adventures. The mountains give her the subject matter of each piece. She hopes her art will connect with your memories of being in nature and resonate with the feeling of being completely immersed in the wilderness.

Gisa Mayer grew up in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. Skiing in the afternoon was more important than attending High School. Spending her childhood in the mountains and on lakes left her longing for the outdoors as she studied Art, Art History and Romance Languages at universities in Germany, Austria and Italy.
In 1997 she moved permanently to Calgary, Alberta. The Rockies have been her favourite subject since. Movement in the skies, long lines in the rock, the endless colours of the vegetation are a never ending source of inspiration for her big, bold landscapes.
After occasional excursions into the realm of the abstract, she always returns to painting nature. The landscapes we grow up in are forever the spaces we long for, especially if they are as gorgeous as the Bavarian Alps.
If Gisa isn’t in her studio, you can find her outside skiing, hiking, and swimming in cold mountain lakes. Her paintings are on display in many private and corporate collections in Europe, North America and Australia.

Stéphanie was born in Québec, Canada and from an early age, demonstrated a keen interest in illustration, encouraged by her family and teachers. She earned a Fine Arts degree in 1989, after which, the mountains of Canada`s west coast called her adventurous spirit. Being an avid skier, she settled into the quaint mountain town of Rossland B.C. and started a family.
Focusing on acrylic painting, this energetic woman`s work is indicative of her love for the outdoors. Gauvin`s bold use of composition, exciting choice of color, and warm tones mark her self taught style.
A Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA), she has been painting professionally for 14 years. Stephanie operates her own commercial Gallery space in Rossland BC and is now represented in galleries across Canada.

Roy Millar was born and educated in Scotland where he developed an early love for painting, the highland landscape and outdoor pursuits.

Artist Statement: I’m committed to a life of creating images. My primary goal is to master the art of painting and develop increasingly the ability to convey my passion for the subjects I explore.

Louise Olinger's appreciation of the wildness and raw beauty of nature began in childhood when she was first captivated by the allure of the mountains. Louise moved to the mountains in the mid-90's and is thrilled that she is living her dream: combining her love of the outdoors and painting the very landscape she so passionately enjoys.
