Bow Hut Spruce Up

Bow Hut Gets Some Love

The Bow Hut, the largest hut on the Wapta Icefields, saw some interior spruce up work this summer prior to the start of the main work at the Louise and Richard Guy Hut at Mont des Poilus. Our maintenance team took some pictures to document the renovation, shared here.

The work primarily involved scraping and repainting the interior of the breezeway that connects the kitchen and main living area with the sleeping area. The breezeway is also the entrance to the outhouse and was in need of some new paint after years of use and heavy condensation.

The long term plan for a major Bow Hut renovation is not settled yet, but potentially could include the use of structurally insulated panels (SIPs) and other technologies based on the experiences gained from work on the Louise and Richard Guy Hut this summer. We're hoping to be able to do more work on the Bow Hut in the next couple years.

The present Bow Hut was built in 1989 to replace the original Bow Hut that was built in 1968. It sleeps 30 people and is the largest and busiest hut on the Wapta. After the opening of the Louise and Richard Guy Hut, it will be used as the first stopover on the Bow-Yoho Traverse.
