Guy Hut Update - August 12

Concrete, Steel and SIPs

The structure of the Louise and Richard Guy Hut continues to progress as ACC staff, volunteers and contractors continue work at the Mont des Poilus work site.

The concrete foundation was completed last week, which set the stage for the installation of the steel beams, to be followed by the wall panels. All of the concrete used in this project has been donated by Lafarge Canada, due to the work of Dave Preissl. Thanks, Dave!

Steel Infrastructure Established

On top of the concrete foundation and pilings now sits the steel beams that will become the infrastructure of the hut. The Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs) will be connected to the beams to form the hut walls as the next step. The steel beams were fabricated in Canmore by Bow-Cor Custom Welding and flown into the work site on long lines. The pilots from Alpine Helicopters in Canmore then lifted the beams and set them down in place on the foundations that were poured earlier this month.

SIPs Flown In

The Structurally Insulated Panels that will form the majority of the hut were constructed by Titan Wall and packaged in wooden crates for the flights into Mont des Poilus. The crates are now all on site and will be erected in the coming two weeks. Importantly, the panels all arrived on site safely which is due to both the great work of Titan Wall in crating them up and the precision flying of the skilled pilots at Alpine Helicopters. A new crew of volunteers reached the site yesterday (Tuesday) to begin the work on the hut's wall panels.

A Team Project

As each crew departs the work site to be replaced by another dedicated team we are once again reminded of the amazing community of ACC members that makes projects like this come together. Our thanks goes out to our volunteers once again.
