GMC Photo Contest Selections - 2017

This summer we partnered with Mountain Hardwear to run a photo contest for the duration of our General Mountaineering Camps. We had over 100 photo entries and cooked them down to a top three, but it wasn't easy! Below is our short list of entries, beginning with our top three winners.

Judging was based on criteria such as photo composition, originality and how well the submission reflects the spirit of the ACC and the GMC. Congrats to all our winners and thanks to all of those who entered; there were so many great photos to choose from, you made our jobs tough this year!

Grand Prize Winner

GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Amy Liu with this photo overlooking Justice Glacier.

GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Amy Liu with this photo overlooking Justice Glacier.

Our grand prize winner is Amy Liu who has won herself a Mountain Hardwear Women's HeratioTM 15F / -9C Sleeping Bag. We loved this photo because it captured the team feel of the camp. More about the photo from Amy: "I decided to hike by myself up to the valley that was facing the Justice Glacier and waited for teams to come up. Clouds and morning lights made their appearance like a show. This photo shows the vast beauty of that area and the climbers enhancing the contrast between human and mountains."

Second Prize Winner

SECOND PRIZE: Hai Pham with this photo of the group climbing Mount Justice.

SECOND PRIZE: Hai Pham with this photo of the group climbing Mount Justice.

Our second prize winner in the GMC photo contest is Hai Pham who had won an ACC merino t-shirt and sweater. We loved how this photo takes you right into the action, making you feel like you were there with the team. About the photo: "This was taken from the 4th week, with Mount Justice in the background."

Third Prize Winner

THIRD PRIZE: Aloke Surin with a photo looking back on camp in the distance.

THIRD PRIZE: Aloke Surin with a photo looking back on camp in the distance.

And our third prize goes to Aloke Surin. Our judges agreed this was one of the best photos we saw this year that really showed the location and remoteness of Base Camp (look hard and you can see the orange tents!). And it looks like a scene from the Lord of the Rings somehow! Aloke has won two nights for two at an ACC hut.

And here are our runners up!
